Team Selection Policy

Eligibility for inclusion on the selection list

All players shall pay their subscriptions to the club or have made arrangements to pay them (e.g.
Standing Order) in order to be considered for selection for league games.
Players must not be under disciplinary action to be included in the selection list.

Men’s Team selection committee

The Selection Committee for league and cup competitions will be composed of the coach co-
ordinator and the team secretary together with the captains (or vice captains) of the relevant teams.
Where the team secretary or coach co-ordinator holds one of the other positions another member
can be invited. The team secretary will chair the meetings, and will be responsible to the club
committee for ensuring adherence to the principles and guidelines. The team secretary will also be
responsible for ensuring only eligible players are included on the selection list.
Before selecting teams, there should be an opportunity to review the previous weekend’s matches
in terms of team results as well as opportunities offered to and performances delivered by individual
players.
The selection committee will convene once a week, on Monday evening or as early in the week as
possible. Wherever possible team selection lists will be posted on the club website by Wednesday
night – this action will automatically notify all selected players by email.

General principles:

  1. Selection shall be on the basis of having a well-balanced side;
  2. Selection may be influenced by knowledge of the opposition, knowledge of the ground
    conditions and the expected weather on the match day;
  3. Selection shall ensure that the interests of the First XI are given first priority; however, the
    interests of the Second and Third XI’s and of individual players will be taken into account in
    selection.
  4. Under the same principle the interests of the Second XI will have priority over the Third XI.
  5. Members on the league selection list, who’s frequency of selection for matches is low, will
    be included in the Taverners selection list also.
  6. Selection shall be governed by the relevant eligibility rules.
  7. Players are not guaranteed selection for all games for any team
